ABOUT US

Anti-Fraud Initiative Ghana (AFIG) is a Non-Governmental Organization advocating for a fraud free society. We seek to cause social change by helping in the fight against systematic and institutional fraud, financial malfeasance, corruption and abuse of office by trusted officers in both the public and private sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

AFIG was established in 2018 by a group of young Ghanaian professionals who observed over a period, the systematic and institutional fraud regime gradually crippling the success of the public and private economies of Ghana.

These young but fearless group conceived this very challenging but noble idea after meeting and sharing their individual life experiences characterized by the canker of fraud and corruption right from the days in the University, to their early career years as Public Servants in the Revenue Mobilization Agencies of Ghana, the Metropolitan Assembly offices in some of the biggest cities in Ghana and later in their years of experience working in the private sector as Bankers, Intellectual Property Consultants and Auditors.

These group of young professionals, after several meetings and sharing their touching tributes unanimously agreed on one thing succinctly put by Rigoberta Menchú, the Nobel Prize laureate “Without strong watchdog institutions, impunity becomes the very foundation upon which systems of corruption are built. And if impunity is not demolished, all efforts to bring an end to corruption are in vain”.  On this note, AFIG was born.

Prisoner holding metal cage in jail, no freedom concept

Today, there is more fraud in the world than any crime. Fraud ruins individuals and families and causes corporations to go down easily. It deprives households of their food; causes homelessness, unemployment, and eventual deaths.

The impact of fraud is particularly dangerous in a developing country like Ghana. Families are grieving as a result of corruption and fraud in under-developed countries. Everyone is hurt by fraud except the fraudsters who enjoy the spoils of their trade. Fraudsters don’t care about the plight of the ordinary citizen and will go at any learnt to perpetuate their crimes. Though frightening at times, it is also undeniable that fraud can be stopped. YES, you and I, can stop fraud.

Every individual can be a victim of fraud, that is why in AFIG, we take our “ERS” strategy to heal the world of the inexplicable torture and unending pains that fraud victims endure.

1. Education/Awareness

We believe that, the best way to avert fraud is to discuss it, making people aware of the tricks, mode of operation and the antics fraudsters use. We believe this is the biggest move in fraud fighting. This is the reason we employ various means to carry fraud awareness creation and anti –fraud education to every Ghanaian. Over the cause of our interaction with fraud victims over the years, we have realized that any individual, irrespective of their level of education and exposure can fall prey to the schemes of fraudsters.

2. Recovery

We help individuals, small and medium scale organizations who have been victims of fraud in investigation and possible recovery. We use various means and possible court actions to achieve our desired outcome.

3. Support

While victims of violent crimes are offered support at nearly every level of social services, fraud victims are often swept under the carpet. AFIG provides material and other plausible support to help them navigate through the pain of being defrauded.
