For many years, attaining financial inclusion for people in Ghana's informal economy was increasingly challenging. Mobile money changed that trajectory by making everyday transactions more accessible, immediate and affordable.

Yet the same speed and reach that make mobile money valuable can also make a fraudulent transaction devastating. Social engineering, impersonation and account takeover tactics continue to evolve around the platform.

Trust is the next frontier

Financial inclusion will only be durable when users can trust the systems they rely on. That means stronger awareness campaigns, safer escalation routes, better data sharing and a culture that treats victims with dignity.

AFIG works with communities and stakeholders to turn practical fraud education into a first line of defence.
